The world rains sugar on our kids, says David Teten (teten.com).
There are endless situations out there that expose children to high sugar intake in addition to the fact that sugar is added to almost every food we buy.
Children are eating too much sugar and it is terribly addictive. It is a well-known fact that reducing sugar intake is extremely important for the health of our children both now and In the future. It is our responsibility as parents and care takers to teach our children about the dangers of sugar and most importantly, expose them to healthy alternatives and give them the tools to deal with it. THE SUGAR MONSTER tells the story of Tommy who meets the Sugar Monster everywhere and can't resist it until he meets Anna, a smart and energetic girl, and learns her secret.
THE SUGAR MONSTER book raises a discussion about this issue and offers a way to have a healthy relationship with sugar.
The book was illustrated by Ravit's 13 year old son.

I'll start with a disclosure: the creators of this gem of a book are my two talented sisters together with my 13 years old nephew. So, now with your permission I'll tell you what I love in this book:
We are not consuming sugar. Sugar is consuming us.
It's everywhere around us, hiding in almost every product. The percentages of diabetes in the western society are rising madly.
Every parent knows well the daily struggle we have with the eating habits of our children.
We want to raise healthy children but at the same time not to make them obsessive and deprived.
This book comes with a great solution:
Candy Day.
Although we can't beat the sugar monster, we can find a way to live with it in peace:
One day a week we let the child choose his sweets and sit and enjoy them,
while the rest of the week he has to eat all the goods of nature - fruits and vegetables, and no sugar!
All I can tell you is that it's working for us. My daughter knows she has to wait to Saturday for candies. She also knows that in order to get it she has to eat healthy food during the week. She finds this deal quite fair.
This model is a Scandinavian one.
Now about the book -
It's indeed a sweet way to introduce our children to the concept of Candy day.
Written with a rhythm and a melody, repetitive rhyming and innocent, sweet illustrations.
